coachella style fashion

If you were like me this #Coachella #Beychella 2018, watching the magic go down on a 14 by 16 laptop screen, or scrolling through the TL to see all of my “friends” (I use the term loosely here, for obvious hateration reasons) live their best life, you realize very quickly that the only thing worth enjoying from a distance are the outfits. Before I go into this roundup, I have to mention HOW HAPPY I AM that everyone received the memo that said flower crowns and all things fringe were out until further notice.

Check out these desert slays perfect for your Summer moodboard:

1. Rihanna, duh!

Hydration is key at Coachella (or so I’m told -_-) and you probably want to wear something that won’t cause you to overheat BUT if you’re planning on partying into the cool desert night temperature, this Gucci balaclava is a hit! This isn’t Rihanna’s first rodeo with the mask-on aesthetic (remember the crystal Gucci bodysuit slay of 2017?). But the accessories here, an often underdone must at Coachella, are the real MVPs. The bold earrings, rings, necklaces and eye / nail bling coordination really helped breathe new life into this runway look and redefine edgy desert glam. PLUS her bracelet doubles as a flask, so hydration is still top of mind.

2. Desert approved boots.

Speaking of accessories… In my experience having your shoe game strong at a festival can be a little tricky for obvious reasons: it sucks to get stepped on when you’re wearing cute sandals and muddied sneakers are never in vogue. Naturally, boots are the go-to footwear for Coachella. Although cowboy and motorcycle styles are often first pick, these colorful snake print Chloe combat boots are a gift from the festive Gods.

3. If you’re going to go sheer, make it sparkle.

Coachella I️ 💗 U @laureldewitt

Honestly, if I had a dollar every time a sheer outfit popped up on the Coachella tag, I’d actually be at Coachella, all expenses paid for. But this part romper, part jewelry metal-link piece by Laurel DeWitt will obviously have you stand out in the sea of sheer. The hybrid channels Paco Rabbane 60s with a modern twist.

4. Sometimes less is more.

Give me a pair of denim short shorts, Doc Martens and a vintage tee (maybe throw in a Chanel fanny pack for good measure) and I am a happy desert camper. This effortless monochrome outfit is the perfect combination of low maintenance feels paired with high fashion verve.

5. We must accept the crochet dress.

Honestly, if I had a dollar every time a crochet dress popped up on the Coachella tag, I’d actually be at Coachella, all expenses paid for. If I had a dollar everytime this Lover and Friends set popped up, I’d have free lunch for a week. Granted it’s been done many times, but a good crochet dress is a festival, and Summer, wardrobe essential. And this cream set with floral accents oozes sunny season vibes.

6. Sporty Spice made a huge comeback.

Kendall Jenner and Romee Strijd were twinning at the Revolve party and they weren’t the only ones who decided to channel Ali G at Coachella this year.

Street style, as opposed to boho-chic, made a big impact on this year’s festival fashion and I’m not mad at it. Still, had I opted for an ode to Sporty Spice, I’d take a page out of Ella Angel’s book and make it a real #GIRLPOWER statement piece / low key walking thirst trap:
